Mall Simulator

Mall Simulator hallway with 1987 Christmas storefronts

Lost Corridors already had the walking part: liminal halls, WebGL, arrows, that slightly-too-empty feeling. Mall Simulator was supposed to be the same trick with a point — walk a mall, flip the year, watch the stores change.

I got a hallway up. 1987, 1998, 2015. Christmas or everyday. A couple of storefronts that looked right from twenty feet away. Then I had to actually make the stores.

There's no clean way to do that. A storefront isn't a texture you slap on a box. It's a logo, a fascia, a window display, a color language that only exists in somebody's 1987 memory and a handful of blurry old photos. To do three eras honestly, I'd be spending the rest of the project hunting down images and arguing with myself about whether Kay-Bee's red was the right red.

That's not a graphics problem. That's a research job I didn't want. I lost interest.

The build is in Failed, which is the correct shelf.
